Quoting Mark Twain, “If you don’t like the weather in New England, just wait a few minutes.” Temperatures this week ranged from triple digit highs to lows in the 50s, nutty even by New England standards.
My flock ordinarily free-ranges, but with temperatures in triple digits, I kept them confined to the run for because it’s cooler than walking around in the sun. The run has everything they need: The Chicken Fountain serving up cold, fresh water, the mister providing 15-20°F lower temps, Grandpa’s Feeder for convenient access to food and plenty of cool, sand for dust-bathing.
Blaze’s recovery continues as twice daily I pack his wattle and earlobe with antibiotic-soaked gauze. Barbie was supervising this particular day. ☺
Brutus & Portia (Seramas) have discovered one another, Portia having hatched a few months later than Brutus.
Brutus standing sentry at the mulch bed the hens have claimed as a dust bathing location.

Would love to win the fountain so I could try it out in one of my coops before I buy another one<3 I have 2 coops and I am unsure of how well my peeps would train to it. Do they seem to get it pretty quickly?
Our family would love a chicken fountain. We are trying to teach our boys responsibility by having them feed and water they chickens every day, but the water containers aren't always as clean as they should be. I know a chicken fountain would help keep the water supply cleaner! I am also going to try some of your recipes for ACV…wish me luck!!
As a fellow New Englander (NH) I too can attest to the crazy weather this summer. This is my first year raising a backyard flock and we couldn't be happier with our decision. Thank you for being one of my guides on this crazy fun journey of chicken keeping; and thank you AND Rachel for the chance at winning a chicken fountain!!
Thank you for your postings on the loss of a dearly loved chicken. We lost our only Black Java hen due to an attack by our neighbors dog that opened our gate to our chicks and injured 3 of my babies. Our Java, Diamond. Such a loss for me.
this is our first year with ducks and chickens. I would love to have a chicken fountain.
