This week’s photo essay from Blazing Trails Farm feels dark as most of the week has been snowy, rainy, foggy, grey and overall, blah. Thankfully the temperatures have been above freezing most of the time, which has given the roosters a chance to recover a bit from frostbite. Please enjoy the photos and your weekend!

When it snows, the chickens will come out of the coops if I shovel, only to pace back and forth between coops. Some exercise is better than no exercise I suppose.

What? Do I have something on my face?
The fluffy white stuff was short-lived as torrential rain moved in and made a slushy mess of things.

Blaze chases Sparky a couple times a day to remind him who is in charge of the backyard.  They’re both Black Copper Marans. Blaze is Sparky’s dad.

Rainy eggs.
Blaze & Portia (Serama hen).
Caesar (Serama cockerel)
Blaze and the ladies.
Blaze (left) and Sparky (right) maintain a respectful distance from one another.
Thanks for joining me and have a great week!

I enjoy your your posts very much. The are very informative but yet fun and exciting at the same time. Im only 22 yrs. Old but have been around chickens ever since I was little with my grandpa. Im starting my first little batch this year because I love thos inquisitive and curious little birds so much. This heater seems to be a spectacular little device way better than old fashioned light bulb method. Anyway thank you for all of your posts and the chance to win a prize.

I'm have hopes of fencing in my horses pen so that when she isn't in during the day my chickens can be. So need to get some chicks that will lay white eggs so that my nephew who complains about brown eggs not being "real eggs" won't know :)
