This week has been rooster-centric for some reason. I’ve taken more than a few frame-worth shots of Blaze, Caesar and the P. Allen Smith roolets and wrote an article I have long intended to write on chicken mating. Rooster reproductive anatomy became a shocking subject of conversation at my sister’s house during Easter dinner (don’t ask) and I knew that if my family had such confusion over and questions about chicken sex, lots of others probably did too! If you missed that article, feel free to catch up with it here! Beyond that, the weather has been perfect for anything outdoors and I hope you enjoy some of the photos I shot while taking advantage of it!

Freida, my only Silkie, has been broody and sitting on these eggs since this photo was taken on June 9th- the eggs should hatch on or about Monday!

Thanks for the info on "billing out" or "breaking out". Almost made me nuts! Lol it has been getting into the high 80's low 90's here. To help cool the ladies I have set a large plastic feeder/water tub and fill with water. I then through fresh mint in the water and they love it! They eat the mint and even stand in the water which is what I was hoping they would do.

I have learned so much from your site! It's nice to be able to find other people that have a love for chickens like me, and get advice. The sign on this giveaway would be fun to have, because I'm starting to decorate our coop. And the omega egg maker would be wonderful for our girls.
