This week’s photo essay from Blazing Trails Farm feels dark as most of the week has been snowy, rainy, foggy, grey and overall, blah. Thankfully the temperatures have been above freezing most of the time, which has given the roosters a chance to recover a bit from frostbite. Please enjoy the photos and your weekend!
When it snows, the chickens will come out of the coops if I shovel, only to pace back and forth between coops. Some exercise is better than no exercise I suppose.
Blaze chases Sparky a couple times a day to remind him who is in charge of the backyard. They’re both Black Copper Marans. Blaze is Sparky’s dad.

I burned down my garage, the first time I tried to raise chickens. They jumped up, hitting the screen cover and knocking the lamp off the top of their brooder. I now wire the lamps so they can't move. I would really appreciate winning the Brinsea EcoGlow Brooder.
I'm getting a couple of chicks mid-Feb. I so need this!
I love your pictures and appreciate the tips and links to answer all my questions that have come up so far, just got my chickens in May 2013 and am already addicted.
Would be reallly nice to have. I want to hatch some for the first time next year. I think it would be a great experience for my four kids.
Can I still win if I use it for ducklings instead of chicks this year? :-P
