Lots going on this week here at Blazing Trails Farm in New England. Peak leaf-peeping is upon us and the foliage has been spectacular. The highlight of my week was being able to introduce you to Dr. Mike Petrik, DVM, MSc, aka The Chicken Vet.  It has been my great pleasure to have worked with him for the past year and a half to bring you a laying hen veterinarian’s expertise and perspective to my blog. He has helped us understand and care for our birds better and we can look forward to more of the same in the coming months!

In other news, I’ve been busy working with my zoning attorney, preparing for Monday’s Zoning Commission hearing, at which I expect my chicken-keeping proposal to be voted upon. I’ve got a little something up my sleeve that I’m hoping will be the game winning, home-run swing, so tune in at 7pm EST for all the action! If you missed it, last month’s hearing on my hobby farm proposal, you can still watch it here!

Freida (White Silkie) is an empty nester again as her two boyz have struck out on their own. That means she should be broody again any time now. I’ve got two incubators full of eggs, so I’m actually hoping it’s soon!

Windy (Blue Splash Marans hen and adoptive mother of the Littles) and Spartacus. Maternal photobomb: NAILED IT!
Lola (Columbian Wyandotte hen) keeps a respectful distance from the Ruby Slippers I planted under the coop this week.
Jerry Seinfeld and his unnamed Polish Crested sibling, enjoyed the warm temperatures this week.
