The trip of a lifetime to Little Rock Arkansas combined with a most inconvenient stomach flu 24 hours prior to my flight meant that I didn’t have time to prepare a Flock Focus Friday for you last week- you’ll forgive me though, right? I was invited to attend P. Allen Smith’s Garden Home Retreat to be the guest reporter for him at his Poultry Workshop, which was an honor indeed! I knew that I would be filming television and radio segments with Allen the day before the workshop, but I didn’t realize that I was going to be the only chicken blogger/writer in attendance that weekend- holy pressure, Batman! I had the time of my life and can’t wait to share the scoop with you. I have been catching up on work and fielding new offers and opportunities all week, but I promise to share more details about my trip very soon!

The gate at P. Allen Smith’s Garden Home Retreat.
The view from P. Allen Smith’s Garden Home, overlooking the sheep pasture, duck house and new poultry barn in the background.
P. Allen Smith’s Black White Faced Spanish pen in the new poultry barn, which was just built last fall.
Allen and me on the way to chat with his brother (who really needs his own reality show- he was a total hoot)!
Egglets from P. Allen Smith, safe at home in Connecticut!
Back to the coal mines on Monday. :) The torrential rain created flooding in many parts of Connecticut, including my chicken yard.
The rain and flooding was just the start of the weather fun this week as Mother Nature reminded us how quickly things can change in New England in April. Snow. Seriously?!

What a difference a day makes! The snow quickly melted the next day and Caesar stood guard over the backyard while Mr. Chicken Chick built some new droppings boards for the coops!

Buff Orpington hen.
Freida, White Silkie hen.
Kate, Speckled Sussex hen.
Catch of the day.
Lola, Columbian Wyandotte hen.

Important reminder:

“He’s behind me, isn’t he?”
Thanks for visiting and have a great week!

Cam't wait to read about your adventures at "The Garden Home". I love P. Allen Smith, I wish he was on tv more often. It's nice to see you're located in Ct! I was born and raised there and do get home sick as I live in Washington with my husband, kids and new flock of chicks. My mother and step-father own the Connecticut River Valley Inn in Glastonbury, perhaps you've heard of it? Thanks for all the time you take to blog about all the happenings with your flock so we can glean wisdom from you.

How do you arrange a visit to P Allen Smiths farm. I will be I Conway AR for a week in July doing volunteer work and would love to visit with him.

Sounds like you had a fantastic, and I'd imagine, somewhat of a surreal time with p. Allen Smith. Check that off your bucket list. Will you be a special guest very now and again on his show? How cool would that be!

I am hoping that the 16 eggs wait until Tuesday to hatch. Grand Darlins will be here for the week. RooRoo is going to visit my brother and add color to his flock. It seems that we always needs first aid at night. I hope I win.
