This week has been rooster-centric for some reason. I’ve taken more than a few frame-worth shots of Blaze, Caesar and the P. Allen Smith roolets and wrote an article I have long intended to write on chicken mating. Rooster reproductive anatomy became a shocking subject of conversation at my sister’s house during Easter dinner (don’t ask) and I knew that if my family had such confusion over and questions about chicken sex, lots of others probably did too! If you missed that article, feel free to catch up with it here! Beyond that, the weather has been perfect for anything outdoors and I hope you enjoy some of the photos I shot while taking advantage of it!
Freida, my only Silkie, has been broody and sitting on these eggs since this photo was taken on June 9th- the eggs should hatch on or about Monday!

We have been amused by our realization that one of our 5 hens is a rooster. The beginnings of the crow is too funny! He apparently speaks 6 yr old as the 2 of them have very serious conversations. Your helpful information have put our worries to rest so we can enjoy our "surprise " to the fullest.
