The flock hasn’t been the same since our fearless leader Blaze passed away. The preliminary necropsy report ruled out trauma as a cause of death, so we know for certain that none of the other roosters were to blame for his untimely departure. An enlarged spleen was the only abnormal finding in the post mortem exam, but the results from the tissue samples offered no definitive cause for the enlarged spleen.

Kathy, I have been quite preoccupied with demolition and construction at my house and have not been online much or checking in. I am so very shocked and sorry to hear about Blaze. Rachael must be very sad. My condolences you all of you and your flock. I lost my beloved Hazel last week, when she fell into my water garden and drowned. I was beside myself! I think I understand your feelings about Blaze. Again, condolences!

I’m so sorry about Blaze. I have no doubt he had the best life a chicken could ever ask for. He was one beautiful rooster — I’ve admired pictures of him on your blog for years now. Would love grandpas feeder, but more importantly, so so sorry to hear about Blaze. He was beautiful, and I’m sure he was very diligent watching out for his girls. They will miss him, as I’m sure you will too. Sad ?
