Spring struggled mightily to arrive as scheduled this week, but more of winter’s freezing temperatures over-stayed their welcome. There is light at the end of the tunnel though as we look forward to temps in the 50s this coming week.

I have to believe that drinking the snow melt is my flock’s idea of helping erase The Eternal Winter.

Finally got an egg today after months of empty nesting boxes. Maybe the girls would be more excited to lay in a new fancy box like this one… ;)

Hi Kathy, I just got two baby black cochins today; they are three days old! They are always huddled together. They explore the container, but always stay very close together; one of them pecked the other on the beak. Is this play pecking or serious pecking? Also, is this normal behavior? I am a brand new Chicken Chick! I just moved my brooder to the garage from my laundry room and already having separation anxiety! The coop is just about ready; just need nesting boxes :). Thanks! Love your website.
