This week’s photo essay from Blazing Trails Farm feels dark as most of the week has been snowy, rainy, foggy, grey and overall, blah. Thankfully the temperatures have been above freezing most of the time, which has given the roosters a chance to recover a bit from frostbite. Please enjoy the photos and your weekend!

When it snows, the chickens will come out of the coops if I shovel, only to pace back and forth between coops. Some exercise is better than no exercise I suppose.

What? Do I have something on my face?
The fluffy white stuff was short-lived as torrential rain moved in and made a slushy mess of things.

Blaze chases Sparky a couple times a day to remind him who is in charge of the backyard.  They’re both Black Copper Marans. Blaze is Sparky’s dad.

Rainy eggs.
Blaze & Portia (Serama hen).
Caesar (Serama cockerel)
Blaze and the ladies.
Blaze (left) and Sparky (right) maintain a respectful distance from one another.
Thanks for joining me and have a great week!

Your posts and pictures are wonderful and most helpful. We're raising chickens, barred rock, for the first time. We have 7 ladies and are thinking about getting a rooster this summer to have chicks :) so to win the brooder would be great! Thanks for all you do!

Love your site and your posts! Finally, someone who loves chickens as much as me! My husband also loves his "girls" as he calls them. I cook for them everyday. They get brown rice, quinoa, orzo, you name it. Anything to make them happy and they lay even during the really cold weather. I love my chickens!
