This week’s photo essay from Blazing Trails Farm feels dark as most of the week has been snowy, rainy, foggy, grey and overall, blah. Thankfully the temperatures have been above freezing most of the time, which has given the roosters a chance to recover a bit from frostbite. Please enjoy the photos and your weekend!

When it snows, the chickens will come out of the coops if I shovel, only to pace back and forth between coops. Some exercise is better than no exercise I suppose.

What? Do I have something on my face?
The fluffy white stuff was short-lived as torrential rain moved in and made a slushy mess of things.

Blaze chases Sparky a couple times a day to remind him who is in charge of the backyard.  They’re both Black Copper Marans. Blaze is Sparky’s dad.

Rainy eggs.
Blaze & Portia (Serama hen).
Caesar (Serama cockerel)
Blaze and the ladies.
Blaze (left) and Sparky (right) maintain a respectful distance from one another.
Thanks for joining me and have a great week!

Love your posts, I share them with my son who is 8, He and I run the coop around here and he wants our girls to start hatching chicks this year – we would love to be the 'clucky winners' :D

Hi Kathy! Always enjoy reading your blog and facebook posts! Our Muscovy duck, Zippy, is laying and since she lives with a male Muscovy, Claude, we're incubating the eggs. We have 14 as of today and many of them are fertile and showing veining! Would love to put the brooder to good use if we get any ducklings! Fingers crossed here in Wilbraham! Enjoy your day at the Big E!
