This week’s photo essay from Blazing Trails Farm feels dark as most of the week has been snowy, rainy, foggy, grey and overall, blah. Thankfully the temperatures have been above freezing most of the time, which has given the roosters a chance to recover a bit from frostbite. Please enjoy the photos and your weekend!
When it snows, the chickens will come out of the coops if I shovel, only to pace back and forth between coops. Some exercise is better than no exercise I suppose.
Blaze chases Sparky a couple times a day to remind him who is in charge of the backyard. They’re both Black Copper Marans. Blaze is Sparky’s dad.

Thanks for all that you do. I follow most of your pages. I could really use this. I used everyone of my chicks last time due to cooler weather at night. We also plan to make a better brooder box this year.

This could actually be a dangerous prize … safer for the chicks and home but dangerous in that we might get a little too ambitious in how many chicks to order and raise. Hope to win this one though!
Love your sense of humor and 'chickenizing' of the language! Appreciated the blog a little bit ago on dealing with bullies. I'm finding it difficult to identify the 'head bully' though, so would love some tips about how to do this. It seems that all of them bully this one hen, who I have had to isolate a few times now, although always isolate alongside the flock.
