This week’s photo essay from Blazing Trails Farm feels dark as most of the week has been snowy, rainy, foggy, grey and overall, blah. Thankfully the temperatures have been above freezing most of the time, which has given the roosters a chance to recover a bit from frostbite. Please enjoy the photos and your weekend!

When it snows, the chickens will come out of the coops if I shovel, only to pace back and forth between coops. Some exercise is better than no exercise I suppose.

What? Do I have something on my face?
The fluffy white stuff was short-lived as torrential rain moved in and made a slushy mess of things.

Blaze chases Sparky a couple times a day to remind him who is in charge of the backyard.  They’re both Black Copper Marans. Blaze is Sparky’s dad.

Rainy eggs.
Blaze & Portia (Serama hen).
Caesar (Serama cockerel)
Blaze and the ladies.
Blaze (left) and Sparky (right) maintain a respectful distance from one another.
Thanks for joining me and have a great week!

I would love to win this! We'll be raising our first ever batch of chicks this spring, and I CAN'T WAIT!! The suspense is killing me. Every day, I'm looking at chick pics, ideas for how to update/improve our coop, learning how to care for chicks, etc, etc. Anything to tide me over until the cute fluffiness is here. :-)

These brooders are awesome and the chicks love them. Zero losses the first time we used one. Now we want one of our own!
