Regardless of the number of times I have hatched chicks, the process of embryo development fascinates me equally each time. That a chicken egg can evolve from common recipe ingredient into a living, breathing, fluffy-butt in a mere 21 days fits my definition of miraculous. The following photo presentation pairs well-known images from the Purdue Research Institute, depicting embryo development from the inside, with my own photos of candled eggs throughout the 21 chicken egg incubation period.
I invite you to view any one of my YouTube videos to witness the wonder of hatch day. Baby Chick Hatching in Home Incubator, Singing and Dancing Easter Egger, Hatch Day! Ameraucana Chick Arrives! and Hatching Easter Egger.
Egg candling was done using the Brinsea OvaScope egg candler.

How long after day 21 should we leave our chicks in the incubator? Last year some of us had some chicks that hatched on day 24 but had birth defects. And whats the best way to get rid of eggs that do not hatch after the waiting period?
By day 23, they’re done. You can place them in a ziplock bag and carefully place them in the trash outside.
You will need to candle the eggs in a day or two to see whether they were left alone too long.
I have a hen on 5 eggs at the moment and i think she has been on them for 14 days. She was out with the other chickens for a short time this morning and when back to nesting but the only thing she went to a empty nesting box. I felt the eggs and they weren't warm is this okay. Are they to stay warm the whole time the hen is on the nest.
How did they hatch out of the shell??? Are those alive in the pics cause how can they survive without a shell???? :)
ok, my eggs did not hatch but i bought new eggs online ill try again!
