Growing up one of five children, I learned plenty about creativity and resourcefulness from my mother; she was a stay-at-home mom who was always cooking up something in an effort to save our family a buck, stretch a dollar and make something out of nothing so that we always had everything we needed. For Easter one year, she took a crochet pattern that appeared in Woman’s Day magazine on March 27, 1978 and not only made all of the children in our family unique Easter basket gifts, she crocheted and sold hundreds of these Easter chicks and eggs, custom made to-order!

My mom’s cleverness served our family well then and the lessons I learned from her craftiness and cleverness remain with me today. When I shared this photo of the crocheted chicks inside eggs on my Facebook page, there was an immediate demand for the pattern, but I figured folks were out of luck- who saves these things for over 30 years? Imagine my shock when my mother called to say she had actually saved the original crochet pattern! Please feel free to download the pattern and make some memories for the little ones in your life, courtesy of Grandma Chicken Chick. ♥

Walking down our little hill in the backyard opening and closing the gate to the backyard and opening the screen door then the regular door. I droped one egg before even exiting the coop. The other i droped right inside the front door. Luckily my moms… Read more »
